Since March 2011, with a view to working together in the elaboration of Co2 compensation mechanisms with a territorial dimension, nrg4SD and CDC climat – the subsidiary of the French public bank Caisse des Dépôts created in February 2010 to develop climate action as a long-term investor – have come together in a fruitful collaboration in the framework of nrg4SD’s Financing Climate Action Working Group. This collaboration was formalised in August 2011 with the signature of a Memorandum of Understanding.
Based on the share commitment to work together on climate action at subnational level and following from the frutiful informal collaboration over teh past years, in June 2011 nrg4SD and The °Climate Group (T°CG) signed a Collaboration Agreement. This collaboration agreement aims to structure the work between between both networks in areas of mutual agreement. It includes identifying areas of focus for each organisation in order to avoid duplication of efforts; optimising the geographic complementarity of both organisations in the field of capacity building for climate action, and mutually enhancing the advocacy work of both organisations in seeking international recognition of the contribution of federated states and regions in the global climate change agenda.
The Parties to the Convention of Biological Diversity (CBD) adopted Decision X/22, at COP 10, in Nagoya 2010, recognizing the need and importance of supporting the development of Biodiversity Strategic Action Plans (BSAPs) and other efforts to protect biodiversity at the subnational level. The decision also approved the Plan of Action on Subnational Governments, Cities and Other Local Authorities for Biodiversity (2011-2020), and established the Advisory Committee of Subnational Governments (AC SNG) within the CBD framework.
The nrg4SD is a key supporter of the AC SNG acting as the voluntary coordinator of the Committee, steering regions’ engagement and contribution to CBD program of work. The CBD is also an official supporter of the Regions for Biodiversity Learning Platform, a flagship project of nrg4SD that aims to promote mutual learning and technical exchange on various policies and mechanisms to protect biodiversity such as, subnational BSAPs, the Aichi targets and initiatives related to the implementation of the CBD.
