Global call to share good practices in public management

ORU Fogar and the UNDP have launched the second edition of the Regional Best Practices Award

The award is intended for intermediate governments around the world and the deadline for submitting applications is the 30th April

After the success of the first edition of the Regional Best Practices Award, organised by the United Regions Organization (ORU Fogar) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in 2016, the organisers have launched the II Regional Good Practices Award, the competition awarding the best practices implemented by regional governments that have had positive effects in their public management.

The contest intends to promote and encourage sharing of good practices, which have been implemented by regional governments, with the aim of improving the quality of services provided to citizens. It targets regions, provinces and federal states that wish to strongly contribute – locally and internationally – towards better service delivery for all citizens.

The first edition of the Regional Best Practices Award was a good opportunity to exchange innovative approaches and effective solutions that have had a positive impact in several parts of the Word. With this second edition, we hope to further promote this exchange, as well as to engage regional governments and highlight their role in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, thus contributing to the citizens well-being”, said UNDP’s ART Initiative – Hub for Territorial Partnerships Coordinator, Johannes Krassnitzer.

ORU Fogar’s President, Abdessamad Sekkal, encourages “not only our members, but all intermediate governments in the world, to participate and share their successful experiences with our organisation, with the goal of placing them at the disposal of all regions and facilitating their implementation in other territories”, considering that “it is an opportunity to contribute towards greater effectivity and efficiency in public administrations for the benefit of the public good and regional governance.

Best practices can be submitted in English, French and Spanish until April 30th, 2017. Guidelines to participate are available here. A team of experts with a well-known trajectory and public credibility, among which outstanding professionals of the academic, business, cultural and public administration sectors, will be responsible for selecting the finalists and winners among all submissions received.

The five winning practices will be presented at ORU Fogar’s next General Assembly. They will subsequently be published on the Bank of Good Practices of ORU and disseminated through the organizers and partners’ channels.
