
The region of Fatick aims to promote economic, educational, social, health, culture and science in order to achieve the regional development plans and organise the development of its territory while respecting the integrity of the autonomy and powers of municipalities and rural communities. As part of its general jurisdiction, the region has a mission of leadership, coordination and harmonization of regional development.
The Regional Council of Fatick is strongly committed to the conservation of biodiversity. Along with its development partners, several initiatives have been implemented to help preserve regional ecosystems, already weakened by the numerous attacks that are related to the worsening climate and anthropogenic effects. The Region intends to share its experience in the fight against climate change through decentralised cooperation but also its commitment to the environment as a local contribution to the conservation of biological diversity. Regarding the theme of biodiversity, the Region highlights the various activities it pursues and intends to demonstrate that the region can provide relevant territorial anchoring of global issues that must be supported locally.
The region faces the problem of climate change. It works towards mitigating its effects and adapting to its consequences in order to create conditions for sustainable development. To achieve the Millennium Development Goals, the region has made sustainable development a priority. The very cutting edge of the Region in the management of the Environment has been the source of his election as a test of space-TACC (territorial approach to climate change) by UNDP.
According to Mr. Coumba Ndoffène Bouna Diouf, President of the Regional Council of Fatick: "The Regional Council increases the assets of the Region for Sustainable Development and Solidarity'.
Since August 2008, the Region of Fatick has been committed to ambitious development programmes with high environmental value, with the ultimate goal of improving the living conditions of people and create a sustainable life, the conditions for the best environment possible. In carrying out its tasks, the Region of Fatick joined several national and international networks of regions. The aim is thus to participate in the voice of regions in decision-making bodies at all levels, to affirm the place of the Regions for an overall balanced development and territorial cohesion and the recognition of regions within institutions as actors of global governance. Regions can act jointly, with more weight in discussions and decision-making both nationally and internationally.
The Association of Regions of Senegal
The Region of Fatick joined the Association of Regions of Senegal which includes all regional representatives of 14 regions. The advantage is that it allows national network to bring all regional advisers to participate in community life and also uses all the skills that are in their regions. The other advantage is that the LRA has its respondents at the sub-region as in Mali, Burkina Faso and France where there are associations of regions.
The Union of Local Elected Associations
Fatick is also a member of the Union of Local Elected Associations (LKAUs), an institution that promotes constructive dialogue between its members, the State and development partners. This network also provides its members with technical and administrative support including conducting any activity enabling them to fulfill their mission and to improve the management of local authorities.
Regions-United/FOGAR
Fatick joined the Forum of Global Association of Regions (FOGAR), an institution that brings together regions worldwide and is their ambassador to international bodies. FOGAR allows regions of the world to participate in decisions that affect the exercise of which they are equipped, and establishing the territorial approach to development.
The International Association of Francophone Regions
At the heart of the Francophone world, the regions have a specific place and role to play, which is why, through their skills and resources they devote to international cooperation, they decided to give new impetus to the development of the Francophonie. Fatick is a member of this international network whose aim is to establish between local, regional communities and territories French cooperation, exchange information and experiences relating to their areas of activity.
The Association of the Most Beautiful Bays in the World
Fatick is a member of the International Association of the Most Beautiful Bays in the World which brings together the most beautiful coastlines in the world to promote the transfer of experience and expertise. Within this international network, it is advocated maintaining or improving environmental conditions and economic and social advancement. The PBBM provide a framework for discussion, networking and cooperation with international organizations, universities and research centers and other development agencies. The Association also acts as the spokesperson for its members to defend any attack from the perspective of environmental sustainability.
Network of Regional Governments for Sustainable Development nrg4SD
The overall commitment of the North and South for sustainable development has resulted in the establishment of nrg4SD. Fatick, convinced of the innovative approach of the network joined in 2010 to nrg4SD in order to participate in the development and implementation of policy makers and ambitious tools with a territorial dimension adapted to regional level, and the creation of adequate resources.
Located in west-central Senegal in the natural region of Sine Saloum, Region Fatick combines the features of a wetland, marine, estuarine and lacustrine exceptionally diverse. In its marine and coastal part, his wealth is above all the variety of its ecosystems. This feature helps protect fish reproduction and beaches used by turtles for nesting.
In its "amphibious" partly covered by every tide and consists of three major island groups with a myriad of small islands separated from each other by channels of mangrove called "mangrove". Some of these islands have dense vegetation that hosts a large number of wildlife typical of tropical countries, but also migratory birds from northern countries.

Region Fatick was invited by nrg4SD to participate in COP17 Durban in December 2011 to share its experience in the fight against climate change, particularly through two communications, respectively on "The commitment region Fatick for Mitigation / Adaptation to Climate Change: the Programme for the Development of Renewable Energies (PRODER) "and decentralized cooperation, a response to the challenge of climate change in the region of Fatick. "
