Two years after the Paris Agreement, the need for climate action has never been so urgent. Climate Change agreements and protocols are very important but they take time to be fully implemented. On the other hand, a large part of society does not stand still in the face of the urgent challenge that is climate change and are already taking action towards climate change adaptation and mitigation. Thus why, the UN Climate Change Secretariat has created the Momentum for Change initiative, which aims to take the lead in shining a light to those transformative climate actions already being taken on the ground.
Projects, initiatives, programs and activities happening around the world that aim to tackle climate change with innovative and transformative solutions addressing adaptation, mitigation and the derived economic, social and environmental challenges are called Lighthouse Activities, and are characteristic for being practical, –scalable and replicable around the world.
The Momentum for Change Awards gives the opportunity for Lighthouse Activities to be known around the world, while also benefiting them by official recognition by the UN Climate Change Secretariat, engagement with policy makers, public relations and marketing support including promotional videos, professional photography and a dedicated page on the UNCC Secretariat’s official website.
