The Western Province Climate Change Summit will take place in the city of Colombo, capital of Western Province, Sri Lanka, on September 8 and 9, 2015, and it will be part of nrg4SD’s General Assembly.

The Summit will bring together nrg4SD members, representatives from other regional governments, as well as environmental groups, academics and industry, to work towards common approaches to implementing climate policies on the ground, and facilitate dialogue among subnational governments and other relevant stakeholders.

Bonn Climate Change Conference

The forty-second sessions of the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI 42) and the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA 42), as well as the June session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Durban Platform for Enhanced Action (ADP2-9) were held from 1-11 June 2015 in Bonn, Germany.

nrg4SD and FNAU fostering action for urban and regional planning

During the World Summit Climate & Territories in Lyon, nrg4SD and FNAU (French Federation of Urban Planning Agencies) co-launched the publication “World Summit Climate & Territories Towards COP21 – Inspiring action for urban and regional planning”.

IAEG-SDGs - Indicators on the Post-2015 development agenda

The First Meeting of the Inter-agency and Expert Group on Sustainable Development Goal Indicators (IAEG-SDGs), 1-2 June, NYC in New York. The group was established by the UN Statistical Commission (UNSC) with the mission to propose an Indicator framework and a list of indicators for the global monitoring of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and targets on the period 2015-2030.

10YFP - Regional Discussions on SCP

The 10-year framework of programmes on sustainable consumption and production patterns (10YFP) is a global framework for action, endorsed by the United Nations Program for Environment (UNEP) with the aim of promoting international cooperation to accelerate the shift towards sustainable consumption and production in both, developed and developing countries.

On May 4 nrg4SD participated in a co-hosted event with the European Union Committee of the Regions and the Association of French Regions. The event aimed at discussing COP21 and the role of regions and cities.


An important part of nrg4SD mission is to support and facilitate the exchange of experiences among member subnational governments, as well as networking with the aim of promoting bilateral cooperation initiatives.

World Conference on Education for Sustainable Development - subnational contributions


The year 2014 marks the end of the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development - DESD (2005-2014), and to celebrate its achievements and how this agenda will continue in the future, UNESCO and the Government of Japan are holding the World Conference on Education for Sustainable Development – Learning Today for a Sustainable Future (10-12 November, Aichi-Nagoya, Japan).
