On May 4 nrg4SD participated in a co-hosted event with the European Union Committee of the Regions and the Association of French Regions. The event aimed at discussing COP21 and the role of regions and cities.


An important part of nrg4SD mission is to support and facilitate the exchange of experiences among member subnational governments, as well as networking with the aim of promoting bilateral cooperation initiatives.

World Conference on Education for Sustainable Development - subnational contributions


The year 2014 marks the end of the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development - DESD (2005-2014), and to celebrate its achievements and how this agenda will continue in the future, UNESCO and the Government of Japan are holding the World Conference on Education for Sustainable Development – Learning Today for a Sustainable Future (10-12 November, Aichi-Nagoya, Japan).

15th Global Major Groups and Stakeholders Forum

On the eve of the first United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA), it took place the 15th Global Major Groups and Stakeholders Forum, at the United Nations Office in Nairobi, Kenya, 21-22 June, 2014.

This edition of the GMGSF was focused on the preparation to UNEA, providing a self-organized space for discussion among the stakeholders and major groups accredited to UNEP. With the support of the UNEP Secretariat, the several organizations gathered in 2-days discussion regarding the main topics of the UNEA agenda.

Open Working Group Focus Areas

In addition to the recently launched Progress Report, OWG Co-Chairs released a set of focus areas that are being considered in the SDGs intergovernmental process. We are glad to notice that Sustainable Cities and Human Settlements is item n° 13.

  • Promoting equality, including social equity, gender equality and women's empowerment
