The Constitutional Province of Callao is looking for partners for a project to reduce the level of lead in the region in order to improve public health and environmental conditions.
The Province of Callao has the largest port and airport in Peru. Whilst technical progress in the region must be achieved in order to develop the region and reduce poverty, it has a negative effect on the health of citizens and the environment. This technical progress has produced a population that is exposed to heavy contamination of the storage and transportation of minerals, including lead. This exposure has contributed to various health concerns of approximately 14,000 inhabitants as well as effecting their own human development.
The region must act despite an inadequacy of public resources. It is important that the region provides expertise and resources to build new specialised capabilities and technological alternatives in order to help reduce or remove the contaminants from people who live close to the port.
