The 19th United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change Conference of the Parties – UNFCCC COP 19, took place in Warsaw, Poland, 11-22 November
At this opportunity, Parties to the Convention, multistakeholder and observer organizations gathered to discuss global climate actions and governance, and moreover to share diverse adaptation and mitigation initiatives being implemented throughout the world. In addition, debates and negotiations will progress with the preparations to define the new global climate agreement, to be defined at COP 21, in Paris, 2015.
In this context, nrg4SD has co-organized a side-event, in collaboration with The Climate Group and the Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Change (CMCC), on the 21st November, 16h45 – 18h15, at room Warsaw, National Stadium.
During the event, relevant subnational authorities presented case studies on territorial cooperation (city-city, city-region, region-region, region-territory) within climate change adaptation and mitigation. With this in mind, the event emphasized how a territorial dimension has a direct influence on the successful formulation of climate policies and targets, since it enables tailor-made actions adapted to the population dynamics and urban realities, ensuring the most effective outcomes in tackling climate change at the subnational level.
In addition, the same partner organizations for the side-event have prepared a compilation of case-studies (click here), ensuring that other cities and regions could also share their cases and contribute to a common knowledge database.
