In 2012-2013 Provence Cote d’Azur has established a regional climate, air and energy scheme which has fixed objectives for the region and determines the action for their attainment. The region regularly organises a conference on the energy transition uniting communities, the private sector and associations. Provence Cote d’Azur aims to stimulate initiatives that promote a green economy, communities that particularly invest in innovation and provide solutions for an energy transition. PACA leads the use of photovoltaic energy and has established the initiative “Vivons solaire en PACA” to stimulate the photovoltaic sector. It also aims to promote the use of biomass, wind energy and thermo-energy.
Moreover, the region aims to reduce its waste generation and has implemented a law with the objective of reducing 50% by 2025. This objective requires to minimise the waste generated, a better waste management system and an efficient prevention of waste generation. Through various waste management plans at the regional and community level, the regional Council plans to reach a more efficient and effective waste management system.
The region has a “Regional Programme Provence Alpes Cote d’Azur 2014-2020” in place, which aims to boost economic growth, adapting to climate change, enhance renewable energy production and preserve biodiversity.
