World Summit of Regions 2012

The United Nation Conference on Sustainable Development Rio+20 takes place from 20 - 22 June 2012 in Rio de Janiero, Brazil.

Alongside Rio +20 and to celebrate the 10th anniversary of nrg4SD in 2012, nrg4SD will be organising a World Summit of Regions on 19 June 2012 bringing together regions to advocate for the importance of subnational governments in achieving sustainable development. This World Summit of Regions will feed into key topics ahead of Rio +20 and collaborate with and outreach to like minded organisations and UN entities. nrg4SD will work closely with the Co-Chairs of the Network, the Government of the São Paulo, the Government of Catalonia and the host Government of Rio de Janiero. nrg4SD will also collaborate with The Climate Group in preparation for this event.

Key dates ahead of Rio +20

The UN CSD Rio+20 Bureau agreed on an outline/structure to be used for the preparation of the zero draft of the outline document (the agreed outline/structure will be distributed together with the minutes of the meeting).  The informal-informals consultations on the outcome document will take place on the following dates:

  • 25-27 January 2012:  Initial discussions on the zero draft of the outcome document
  • 19-23 March 2012: First round of informal-informal negotiations
  • 26-27 March 2012: Third intersessional meeting
  • The schedule of informal-informal negotiations for the period after March 2012 will be discussed by the Bureau in its next meeting.
  • 13 - 15 June 2012: 3rd Prepartory Committee Meeting UN CSD
